She upheld the idea that every animal deserved an equal chance of life and spent her life ensuring that they were given that chance. In August of 2007 she was diagnosed with stage four metastasized lung cancer and died peacefully with her family around her on January 12, 2008. Her legacy lives on in her daughter who continues to work with nonprofit organizations and the rescue of animals.
