The Los Angeles Conservation Corps receives helping hands from FedEx at the Redondo Beach SEA Lab.

FedEx operating companies will volunteer their assistance

Redondo Beach, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 17, 2012 -- Redondo Beach, California------January, 2012----- On Wednesday, January 18, approximately 50 team members from FedEx operating companies will volunteer their assistance at the Redondo Beach SEA Lab for maintenance, improvements and repairs of their facility.

The SEA Lab is a hands-on coastal science education center in Redondo Beach that offers free and low cost programs for children of all ages to enjoy. College students trained by the Los Angeles Conservation Corps lead the activities, including beach explorations, touch tank tours and interactive classroom programs. The SEA Lab extends its programs into the community through summer camp programs, community service projects (including beach cleanups) and the Traveling Tide Pool mobile exhibit.
Tasks that will be tackled on January 18 include the installation of 3 holding tanks, building a shade structure for the native plant nursery, storage shed construction, dirt removal and more.

“We are excited to have the FedEx volunteers work at the SEA Lab,” states Brent Scheiwe, the Director of the SEA Lab. “These volunteers dedicate their time and effort to allow the SEA Lab to benefit with some major improvements.”

“At FedEx, we are fortunate to be able to give back to our local communities and working at the SEA Lab is just one way we can help to improve the environment for a better tomorrow,” stated Mary Gonzales, Managing Director-IT at FedEx Services. “Our efforts will enhance the SEA Lab experience for school-aged visitors, local residents, tourists and environmentalists. We are excited to deliver the required work needed to enhance this very special learning facility.”
The day of service will begin at 8:00 AM on January 18, 2012. The FedEx team will work at the SEA Lab for approximately 6 hours.

Founded in 1986, its primary mission is to provide at-risk young adults and school-aged youth with opportunities for success through job skills training, education, and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and projects that benefit the community.
