The Search for Chicagoland’s Ugliest Basement is Underway. Grand Prize Winner Receives a $25,000 Basement Makeover!

Has it become a catch-all storage unit piled high with junk instead of the beautiful living space you’ve always wanted? Thanks to a contest being sponsored by Matrix Basement Systems, your dream of having a spectacular finished basement could soon become a reality!

“With the holiday season right around the corner, I can’t think of a better gift than giving someone a finished basement,” says Nick Richmond, president and co-founder of the Arlington Heights-based Matrix Basement Systems (www.mymatrixbasement.com).

“We thought about conducting a contest in the past, but now, with the economy the way it is and with so many people struggling financially, the timing couldn’t be better,” he adds. “I’ve always believed in giving back to the community,” he continues. “And hopefully, through this contest, we will be helping someone truly in need.”

The Ugliest Basement Contest runs now through December 15th, 2011 and is open to anyone living within a 50 mile radius of Chicago. Those interested in entering the contest are asked to submit 3-5 photos of their basement, along with a letter explaining why they should be chosen to win the contest. They should also include the city or town in which they live and the approximate size of their basement. Videos are welcome, but are not required. Submissions should be sent via email to UglyBasementContest@gmail.com.

The winner of the Ugliest Basement Contest will be announced on January 1, 2012. Work will begin on January 15th. Depending on the size of the basement and the extent of the job, the entire project should be completed within four to six weeks. The basement finishing prize package has a retail value of $25,000!

In addition to Matrix Basement Systems, several other local companies will generously be donating their time, products and services to the Ugliest Basement Contest including Milliken Carpet, Universal Carpet, Ashland Millwork, Reinke Supply, KJM Electric and Anchor Plumbing. Several others are considering donating furniture, home gym equipment, and electronics to complete the basement.

Everyone who enters the contest will receive a $1000 Matrix Basement Systems gift certificate to be redeemed at any time through 2012. They will also be automatically entered into a raffle drawing for a Samsung 43” Plasma TV. The Ugliest Basement Contest winner and the winner of the television will both be announced on January 1, 2012.
