The Shocking State of Welsh Broadband – According to Ofcom
Ofcom have released their interactive map of the UK broadband coverage (http://bit.ly/oc8Lvh), and Wispa Limited are reassured that it demonstrates independently the shocking state of Welsh broadband.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 6, 2011 --
With today's release of an interactive map (al la Google Maps) Ofcom have very firmly placed Wales on the map. In all of the regions of the UK, it clearly demonstrates in easy to understand colours just how bad the broadband provision in Wales is.
No other area in the UK has so much of its population unable to access broadband at speeds over 2Mbps.
No other area in the UK has so much of its population unable to access superfast broadband
No other area in the UK needs vision, direction and ambition as much
There are plenty of criticisms of the lack of granularity within the map – the fact that it does not take into account satellite or wireless provisions etc, but Richard Brown at Wispa Limited is absolutely clear about the message being sent:
“It's obvious that Wales is a failing digital nation, and it simply does not have to be this way. It is not necessary to flood the hills and valleys with fibre to fix this problem, and yet it seems that the Welsh Government are taking the view that is necessary.”
If this is not resolved – and quickly – then Wales will always be the Online Village idiot, and through no fault of it's citizens.
