South Plainfield, NJ – There is a large segment in the African-American community who live in oblivion when it comes to the meaning of having a strong loving father. Many will even argue that in the African American community, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day are one in the same. This is due in part to the fact that according to the U.S. Census Bureau, in March of 2002, there were 8.8 million black families with an estimated 43% being led by women and it is expected that the 2010 census will show an increase in this number. Even though the statistics may seem grim, at The Tabernacle there are teams of African American men that defy all statistics and are strong role models and leaders within and outside the church walls. Celebrating Fatherhood, The Tabernacle awards one worthy role model to designated MAN OF HONOR AND DISTINCTION. “I believe it’s very important to celebrate victories and not always focus on the losses. That’s why we created the Man of Honor and Distinction Award to celebrate African American men who win at life,” says De’Andre Salter, Senior Pastor.

This year, The Tabernacle plans to celebrate fatherhood in the most dynamic and innovative way. The sermon entitled “More than a Game” will teach men the steps they need to take to win at life and will be delivered in an atmosphere that is the definition of unconventional. Ushers will greet and seat people in referee attire while the entire congregation will be sporting the gear of their favorite NBA teams and players.

Men admire winners and love winning. Winning at life is all that matters and this is the reason why men need to worship at The Tabernacle, which is a place dedicated to teaching men how to overcome life’s obstacles and live successful lives. Every man’s victory begins this Father’s Day, June 20, 2010, at 11AM at The Tabernacle located at 1253 New Market Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
