The truth will not set you free. The truth will get you killed

August 23, 2011

It is true. It is a bit of an idealistic viewpoint. Great in theory, but the world really doesn't work like that, does it? You were a fraternity guy at the University of Kansas. Was it tricky getting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 23, 2011 -- It's not a broad comedy. The character is pretty extreme-looking and when you hear it's a guy who goes to jail because he sells pot to a uniformed police officer, it's easy to say, "Oh, it's this kind of movie." The thing I liked about it is he's a really interesting character. I knew it was a comedy but it had other very real moments. I liked the principle this guy lives by. I thought it would be a cool thing to play and that, while lending itself to comedy, actually has some poignancy to it.

The movie really illustrates something Screamin' Jay Hawkins said once: "The truth will not set you free. The truth will get you killed."Maybe it was the 75 children that Screamin' Jay Hawkins had. He operated on his own frequency.
Playing the black sheep in a family of bright, successful siblings, Paul Rudd takes the title role in "Our Idiot Brother." The comedy, which was filmed all around the city, tracks the life-changing impact that gullible nonconformist Ned (Mr. Rudd) has on his three sisters—an aspiring magazine writer (Elizabeth Banks), a flighty hipster (Zooey Deschanel) and a mother raising a son in a dull marriage (Emily Mortimer)—when life throws him a curveball.

When I was in a fraternity, my hair was longer than this character's is. I was considered the token artsy-fartsy hippie dude. It wasn't a standard Neidermeyer-type house. I had an idea of what the character might look like and thought, "tank-tops, shorts and Crocs" right away. I live in upstate New York and they have so many farmer's markets and locally grown produce. I know this kind of character. But all of those things are all just window dressing. I didn't approach it as a stoner. I didn't approach it as a hippie. I looked at the character more like a guy who chooses to see the best in people and live his life accordingly, like women likes her http://www.cheapherveleger2011.com/herve-leger-2011-c-3.html. . It gets him in trouble but he's unflappable in his approach to living. That's a pretty universal person.

Director Jesse Peretz conceived the movie, which was written by his sister Evgenia Peretz and her husband David Schisgall, with Mr. Rudd in mind, having worked with him on "The Chateau" (2001). Since then, the actor has become a much bigger presence, notably as a regular in Judd Apatow's comedies. The 42-year-old native of Passaic, N.J., spoke about his crunchy character's admirably non-idiotic qualities, terrible fashion sense and why he loves New York.

It's easy to get faked out by the movie's title. The story is, surprisingly, a lot sweeter in tone.
