The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards (WPGA) call for entries to The Jacob Riis Award 2010

The WPGA organizes THE JACOB RIIS AWARD 2010 with the exclusive sponsorship of EYEMAZING Magazine and benefiting Save the Children. The winning portfolio will be featured in Eyemazing Magazine.

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 2, 2009 --The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards organize THE JACOB RIIS AWARD (named after the Danish-American photographer, 1849-1914) with the exclusive sponsorship of EYEMAZING Magazine and benefiting Save the Children Foundation. It will focus in portfolios (minimum of 8 and maximum of 12 images) inviting photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements will be welcome. The Award is open worldwide to all professional and amateur photographers working with digital or traditional photography or combinations of both. There is no theme for this Award, and the images will be evaluated as a cohesive body of work (a theme or images representing the artistic trajectory of the photographer), rather than individual images.

The Award will consist in the publication of the winner portfolio in Eyemazing Magazine (to be published during 2010) and a cash prize of $ 3,000.
Each portfolio should be composed of a minimum of 8 images and a maximum of 12. Submission of entries can only be done online.

JURORS:
The Jacob Riis Awards will be juried by Susan Zadeh (publisher Eyemazing Magazine, Netherlands), Paul Cava (photographer, and art dealer, US), Per Valentin (photographer, Chairman Association of Danish Photography, Denmark), and Alexander Scholtz (book publisher Galerie Vevais, Germany).

The images of the winner portfolio, together with the portfolio of the finalists will be published in the book The Jacob Riis Award 2010 and will be exhibited in Europe and/or US in July 2010.

AWARDS’ DATES:
Early Bird Deadline (with discounted entry fees): November 23rd (midnightPST).
Final Deadline: February 28yh, 2010 (midnight PST).
Juror's Announcement: Last week of April, 2010
Inaugural Exhibition: TBD

ENTRY FEES:
$ 80 USD for the first portfolio;$ 40 for each additional portfolio

Submitted photographs may be reproduced for the purpose of marketing and promoting WPGA contests, in catalogs, posters, postcards, publications, and on the Internet. Such use is granted for not more than two years after the announcement of the awards, and without payment to the photographer or featured models. Photographers will receive photo credits with each use, and will allow WPGA to sub-license their photographs to the press for reproduction in connection with the contest and WPGA exhibitions.
