Therapeutic Opportunities for Parkinson’s at the 3rd Annual Ubiquitin Conference

January 4, 2011 Biotechnology news in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania, United States of America

The third-annual Ubiquitin Drug Discovery & Diagnostics conference will feature Dr. Jennifer Johnston, whose work illustrates the importance of the ubiquitin pathway in Parkinson's disease.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 4, 2011 -- The Michael J. Fox Foundation's approach to treatments for Parkinson's has provided a promising start in combating the disease. Dr. Jennifer Johnston and her group at Elan Pharmaceuticals are providing the impetus to develop novel therapeutics against both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

Dr. Johnston, principal scientist at Elan, will speak at the third-annual Ubiquitin Drug Discovery & Diagnostics conference, taking place this year at the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia from July 11th to 13th.

Dr. Johnston's work demonstrates that the Ub-proteasome pathway plays a central role in ensuring the proper functioning of neuronal proteins which, when mutated, have been linked to many familiar forms of the neurodegenerative disorder. Understanding these diseases and the pathogenic mechanisms inherent to them via the ubiquitin pathway raises hopes for the development of mechanism-based therapeutics.

Online registration for the Ubiquitin Drug Discovery & Diagnostics 2011 conference is now available, and participants are encouraged to register early at www.ubiquitinconference.com. As the premier conference in ubiquitin research and drug discovery, this event attracts leading ubiquitinologists from academic, pharmaceutical, biotech and business communities around the world.
