ThinkMarketing takes a look at how Apple has transformed the technology industry. Gone of the days of imagining certain concepts, these days what you think and dream can be possible. ThinkMarketing’s Managing Director says, ‘Apples work is inspiring and limitless, the same characteristics we have adopted here at ThinkMarketing.’ Talking to your telly may look like a sign of madness. Apple, however, begs to differ – and plans to launch a voice-activated flat screen. The company aims to revolutionise the way we watch telly in the same way it has transformed mobiles with the iPhone and listening to music with the iPod. How we spend our leisure time these days has completely changed in recent years.
Its iTV sets will connect to the internet, download films, feature enhanced interactivity and sync with other Apple gear. The screens are due to launch later next year. But the idea was touched upon in a biography of late Apple founder Steve Jobs after his death last month. Jobs said: “I’d like to create an integrated TV set that’s completely easy to use with the simplest user interface you could imagine.” Some details were in a patent Apple filed in October for “real time video control using gestures” and other sensors to read users’ movements.
Apple TV already responds to some gestures when the iPhone is used. Japanese firm Sharp has been asked to begin production in February. ThinkMarketing wonders if there is any point in buying any other entertainment products with the director saying, ‘your iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Macbook to now an iTV – there seem to be no reason to purchase similar items from another brand. Having the same brand across all these items makes certain tasks easier as they all link. I definitely will be first in line when this product launches!’
Having revolutionised the music and mobile phone industries with its iPod and iPhone, the company is planning an "iTV" to turn couch surfing into a hi-tech experience. ‘Other TV manufacturers have begun a scrambling search to identify what iTV will be and do,’ Misek claimed. "They hope to avoid the fate of other industries and manufacturers who were caught flat-footed by Apple." ThinkMarketing is based in Edinburgh and has an extremely successful first year of business, ‘having the competitive advantage over your competitors is a key component to success which we feel we have,’ says the MD of ThinkMarketing.
An internet-connected TV offering seamless links to cloud services to download films – as well as a new level of interactivity – could threaten other manufacturers as well as taking viewers away from pay-TV giants such as BSkyB. Senior engineer Jeff Robbin, who built the iTunes service and helped to create the iPod, is reported to be overseeing the project. In October the US patent office published a filing by Apple for "real time video process control using gestures", which describes using infrared, motion and other sensors to read the user's movements. Gestures could edit video, or "throw" it from one device to another, say to transfer a film from a mobile phone to a bigger screen. The Managing Director is dumbfounded by these advancements saying, ‘being able to not only talk to your TV but also gesticulate is unreal and a massive step forward in the home entertainment industry.’
