(Free-Press-Release.com) June 11, 2011 --Several emails went out in the rescue community about a few very young, very sweet puppies that had a rough start on life and ended up abandoned in Devore County Shelter and faced death. The rescuers banned together, collected funds and called the shelter to hold these dogs and they arrived before the puppies were scheduled to be euthanized. As the rescuers stood in the lobby waiting the staff at Devore shelter killed these puppies. There is a petition for one that you can see here . They claim they have a new staff member who forgot to mark the puppies files. This is a direct violation of the Hayden Act, . When the supervisor, Doug Smith was asked to correct this problem so no further animals would be unlawfully killed he said he would.
Less then 2 days later a second killing happened. A volunteer witnessed a family surrendering an 8 week old white Shepard puppy named Gidget. They said she had an old leg injury and they didn't want her. According to the volunteer the puppy was not in pain and was in good spirits. That night the volunteer circulated a picture of the puppy on Facebook and asked if anyone could adopt her. Several people called the shelter to put a hold on this puppy on Friday, June 10th 2011. Saturday morning a rescue went to adopt the puppy and found out she was euthanized the day before. The shelter again says that no holds were placed on the dog and that she was in pain from her leg injury.
After hearing these stories I googled Devore shelter and found over 100 sites where people witnessed abuse, in humane conditions and very unethical treatment of the animals.
People for Paws Network
has stated that one of the 7 dogs pulled from the county shelter actually passed away this morning as a result of the severe frostbite. The dog was also severely emaciated.
Why out of over 40 county shelters in Los Angeles and San Bernadino is this shelter constantly criticized for abuse? Why is the county though repeatedly called not investigating? How many innocent animals must die? How many times do they need to violate the laws that the animal activists worked so hard to get in place?
