Three times more solar energy generated this year

The figures also show that over 11,314 people installed solar panels in their homes, and that there are now an estimated 28,505 properties in the UK which are able to generate their own source of free solar energy.

The total amount of free solar power has tripled between April 2010, and the end of March 2011. Experts believe that this increase is primarily due to the Governments FIT scheme, which is otherwise known as the Feed In Tariff. This is an incentive that entitles some homeowners to have free solar panels fitted in their homes. For other home owners, they have the opportunity to buy the solar panels from the solar panel installers and generate a small income from the free electricity that the panels produce, and which is fed back into the national grid.
