November 21, 2011 – Good news for people getting visas to travel to Australia for the Christmas season! Singapore’s budget carrier, Tiger Airways, has now recently been cleared to increase its flights to Australia over the Christmas season.
Last July 2, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has successfully sought orders from the Federal Court in suspending the domestic license of Tiger Airways for the rest of the month of July. All Australian domestic flights operated by Singapore Airline’s carrier Tiger Airways have been grounded until July 31 as Tiger’s Australian fleet of 10 Airbus A320s was grounded due to safety concerns as the airline continues to breach safety standards. Permitting the airline to continue flying posed a serious and imminent risk to air safety.
Tiger Airways is a low-cost airline based in Singapore. It is currently the largest low-cost airline operating out of Singapore in terms of passengers carried.
Now, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has cleared Tiger Airways to increase its number of flights in Australia ahead of the busy Christmas travel period.
An additional of 10 daily flights is now available to Australians. The Singapore-based Tiger Airways is now allowed to operate a maximum of 32 flights per day from Singapore to Australia from the 22 flights per day it has been permitted to fly since resuming flights on August 2.
The airline, which flies out of Melbourne, is said to have its new flight schedule that would include two extra daily return services to Sydney, and one extra daily service to Perth, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.
This is a timely approval for both the public and the airline as approach of the Christmas travel season is bound to increase with more tourists on Australian holiday visa to visit Australia. And with the recent Qantas fleet grounding, it would be more difficult for tourists on tourist visa for Australia to avail of a more low-cost flight. Moreover, the additional flights would help the airline achieve its goal of getting the business back to at least a breakeven level as earlier this week, the airline’s Australian business reported a $S27.2 million ($A20.70 million) operating loss in the three months to September 30.
So if you already have a travel visa to Australia, book your flight now. However, if you are planning to get an Australian tourist visa, get it with the help of National Visas.
