FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 21, 2011 -- The Nissan Murano has integrated on-board diagnostics II (OBD 2) because it was manufactured after 1996. OBD 2 has been placed on all passenger cars and trucks since 1996. This version 2 of on-board diagnostics standardized the codes and equipment necessary to decide the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that would activate the "Service engine soon" or "Check engine" light (also known as the malfunction indicator light which short for MIL) on the instrument panel. Retrieving this light is a fairly simple task if you have the useful tool.

You'll need OBD 2 scanner and the scanner owner's manual for this job
Open the driver's side door of the Murano and find out the OBD connector which generally under the instrument panel on the left-hand side of the steering wheel (while certain year models may require looking on the right-hand side of the steering wheel). The connector is the trapezoidal-shaped data link connector (DLC). The connector's shape will match the female plug of your OBD 2 scanner.

Insert the scanner into the DLC. Because it's trapezoidal-shaped, you can only plug the plug into only one way. The battery in the Murano will supply power to most all OBD 2 scanners, but base on the user manual for a "Power" or "On" button.
Turn the ignition key to the Murano two clicks forward to the accessory power position. This position would allow all the options on the Murano without launching the engine.

Read the onscreen menu of the scanner or simply press the "Erase" button or similar item (if equipped). Most scanners feature scroll buttons (one or more) to move the cursor or arrow on the onscreen menu for different diagnostic features. Some scanners feature an erase button that simply needs to be pressed. Some scanners may ask you if you're sure you want to clear the codes. Enter "Yes" for this feature. It will take several seconds for the scanner to send the information to the computer, and a "Command sent" message may appear onscreen or you'll default back to the main menu.
Disconnect the scanner from the DLC. Launch the engine of the Murano to make sure the check engine light is turned off. If you have any query, please do not hesitate to contact me.
