To buy iPhone 4 or Not to buy iPhone 4, reasons for you! iPhone 4 reviews

July 20, 2010

Well, before iphone 4 release, iphone 4 has already been mired in problems since before its launch. The latest scandal to crop up, dubbed ‘antennagate’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 20, 2010 -- Don't Buy iphone 4 Yet
1. Design flaws aplenty Some iPhone 4 owners are reporting discolored screens. Others have noticed scratches on the backside. At least one user cracked the entire rear panel with just a one-foot drop. (I never did understand why Apple chose glass for the backside.) And there’s new speculation that simply holding the iPhone 4 by its antenna band causes a loss of signal strength.

2. “Meh” features Yes, the new Retina display is nice. But you know what? Text, photos, and videos already look just dandy on my 3GS screen. I continue to have little interest in FaceTime, and I can live without a gyroscope. Most of the features I want, I already got from the iOS 4 update. (Check out five hidden iOS 4 features you’ll love.)

3. Multitasking bites Sure, it’s great to be able to run Pandora in the background, but overall, Apple’s implementation of multitasking is disappointing. When you double-click the Home button to bring up the “app bar,” you end up with row after row of icons to swipe through. This makes finding the app you want to switch to maddeningly difficult. (Admittedly, this is more of an iOS 4 issue, but multitasking is among the iPhone 4’s most highly touted features.)

4. No more unlimited data Any new AT&T/iPhone 4 customer will have to choose between two capped data plans. While I do think the higher of the two is fine for most users, it forces you to closely monitor your data usage so you don’t end up paying overage charges. Bleh! If you’re upgrading from an older iPhone, hang onto that unlimited data plan for dear life!

5. Where’s Verizon? It’s an old argument, but I’ve just about had it with AT&T. While service has been okay in my hometown, I’ve encountered shockingly low signal strength (or none at all) in big cities like Chicago and San Francisco. Verizon really, really needs to get in the game, and Apple needs to let them.

Reason to Buy iphone 4

1. The screen looks how good?

A 326 pixels per inch display that's already getting rave reviews from those who've touched it. It'll be interesting to see how that works with existing iOS applications, but it's touted as being indistinguishable at a pixel level when held at a normal distance from the face.

2. HD Video recording
While it's not a Flip Mino HD, 720P is nothing to be too scornful of, and the bump up to a five megapixel camera is a nice addition, although at this size any further megapixel increases do become a bit silly due to the limitations on lens size.

3. Sleek design
Something of a taste call, this one, but it's undeniable that people do buy gadgets based on how they look, and Apple's designs are quite slick. A quarter thinner than the existing iPhone 3GS, tougher and more smear resistant? Yes please.

4. Faster, better, and with more coverage
This for me is the key selling point of the iPhone 4, and it should be for most Australian buyers. It's passed unnoticed in a lot of the commentary I've seen so far. The iPhone 4 is Quad-Band HSUPA capable. What's been picked up there are the rated speeds of 7.2Mbps download and 5.8Mbps upload. That's all well and good, but as our recent speed test of mobile broadband proved, nobody really hits those speeds anyway. Similar story with the inbuilt 802.11n - nice in theory, but the practical effect might not be that great.

What's compelling for Aussie buyers is the phrase "Quad-band". Previous iPhone models have been Tri-Band (850/1900/2100MHz), which meant that every carrier except Telstra had a serious problem outside metropolitan areas, as they use the 900Mhz frequency for 3G services in those areas. The iPhone 4 supports 850/900/1900/2100Mhz (hence Quad-band), meaning that iPhone users across the country now have choice in their mobile carrier, and there's pressure on Telstra for data prices concerning it.

5. I have the powerrr!
Ever seen those annoying bright yellow ads on the side of the road billboards promising longer lasting "performance"? You know the ones I mean. Well, Apple's more or less promising the same thing with the use of the A4 processor in the iPhone 4, as it's both more power efficient and smaller, leaving more space to chuck in extra battery cells, leading to more battery life. 40% more battery life, depending on usage. Sure, that's a claim that will have to be tested, but have you ever met an iPhone user who wanted less battery life?
