Tomer Steinberg, Head Instructor at Hisardut – Center for Israeli Martial Arts, located at 10880 S. Eastern Avenue, in Henderson, competed in the International championship of Dennis Survival Ju-itsu in Israel in December and was awarded a gold medal for his age and weight category and earned the title of Grand Champion. His participation in the event culminated in Steinberg’s promotion to a 5th degree black belt in the Dennis Hisardut system.
With less than a year of training under Steinberg at the Nevada dojo, Nevada dojo, Greg Jarmolowich, accompanied Steinberg to the tournament -- competing in the brown belt division -- and won the silver medal and earned his green belt.
Hisardut (Dennis Survival) reality-based self-defense/martial arts offers students the traditional values of martial arts updated for the challenges of modern life. More than a martial arts studio, the Center offers Hisardut classes for children and adults, fitness classes, private instruction, self-defense for women, and more.
Tomer Steinberg has been training in martial arts since the mid 1970’s, as a youngster in Israel. He studied under the tutelage of 10th Dan, Kaicho, Dennis Hanover, and 9th Dan, Grand Master, Tzadok Shmoeli. Tomer has a black belt in Judo, a 3rd degree black belt in Kyokushin Karate, a 4th degree black belt by the European Ju-Jitsu Union (EJJU), and now, a 5th degree black belt in Dennis Survival JuJitsu. Tomer is the highest ranking belt in the Dennis Survival system, teaching in the US.
This is the 7th time Tomer has won the championship.
Earlier this year, Steinberg accompanied Dr. Hanover to the Martial Arts Hall of Fame, where Dr. Hanover, founder of Dennis Survival JuJitsu, was presented with the Living Legend Award. Steinberg received a medal of honor at that event.
Tomer opened his first martial arts school in 1986, after serving as an assistant instructor for a number of years. He has completed the instructor certification by the Wingate Institute of Physical Education. Since then he has owned and ran several successful martial arts dojos, working with a wide range of students and groups, such as children ages 4 and up, teenagers, adults, women, security personnel, and more. Drawing on his training in healing and coaching, Tomer has developed programs for disabled and distressed youth, working for the Israeli Ministry of Education.
Tomer has an extensive background in complimentary medicine, healing arts, a passion for nutrition, wellness, and fitness, meditation, and the practice of the internal martial arts of I- Chuan, Chi Kung, and Tai Chi.
Is this Krav-Maga? That depends on the definition. The immediate translation of this term is hand to hand combat. It is the umbrella term used by the IDF for all hand to hand combat training. A very rudimentary system was developed, to teach some basic, yet highly effective techniques to the newly drafted soldier, with no martial arts background. That is the system that is promoted around the globe as Krav-Maga. On the other hand, there are special units in the IDF, in which that basic elementary system just isn’t enough. What is taught there is Dennis Hisardut, aka Dennis Survival Ju-Jitsu.
As a philosophy of living, based on respect, discipline and self-knowledge, Dennis Hisardut’s principles are respect for God, the flag, parents, teachers, friends and oneself. From these tenets spring behavioral patterns that direct the way we lead our daily lives, make decisions, grasp opportunities and, most of all, enrich one’s soul and spirit with true, pure values. The Dennis Survival student knows his or her place in the universe, is proud of his or her nation, a devoted son or daughter, a good, loyal friend and a citizen that contributes to society.
The Hisradut – Center for Israeli Martial Arts is fast becoming a home away from home to many of its students. For more information, visit the studio’s Facebook page hisardut las vegas, look at our website www.hisardutlasvegas.com or call 702-530-3755 (DSJJ).
