FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 22, 2011 --
Siliceous sand, soda, lime and cullet, the ingredients of the special recipe used to create the renowned glass from Murano Island, to the north of Venice, 30 minutes by boat from the mainland.
The island made famous by its age-old tradition of glass masters, working every day, even today, in the ovens around Murano.
The “Glass Island” lives off this artistic production. As soon as you disembark on Murano Pier, with its towering statue of the Doge Domenico Contarini, who was much loved among the Muranese, you find yourself in a labyrinth of fire and flowing glass.
A Master holds a stick with an incandescent bubble to his mouth and, with the full force of his lungs, shapes and creates the desired form.
The temperatures inside reach up to 1000 degrees and this is why the most complex creations are produced in the winter months, when the island is full of life with visitors coming to see this fascinating and inspiring work, where one can admire the glass masters at work.
However Murano is also opulent during the summer, in a kaleidoscope of colours, a mini Venice divided in two by a wide canal, fervent with traditions and manual skills.
The particularity of Muranese glass art resides in its uniqueness; a tradition passed down from workshop to workshop, from father to son, because no school can teach you this profession... it is learned only through apprenticeship.
The art of blown glass did not begin in Murano, but in Venice. It was brought to the island in 1291 by decree of the Superior Council to avoid continuous fires that destroyed Venetian buildings near the ovens and to avoid the glass masters moving too far away from the city itself.
The maximum splendour of blown art arrived in the XVI century when the island gained certain autonomy and its own Council which registered the masters in a Golden Book and ensured them substantial, privileged earnings.
This was when the production of chandeliers began, remaining today among the most desirable and renowned in the world.
They have decorated rooms in the most prestigious homes around the civilised world since 1600 and continue today to recreate magical light reflections in any location, lost in space and time.
Topdomus knows, recognises and perceives the value of each creation and is the standard bearer of a laborious, yet unflagging art.
Every single piece is unique, using all sorts of glass...blown, etched, glass-mosaic and cut glass.
Inspiration, wisdom and the capacity to interpret each of our desires makes Topdomus the chancellors of the Golden Book.
We know the masters and we appreciate them, bringing...Venice to you.
