We all, surely, aspire to become golfers with a handicap respected by our peers - and to play courses with a handicap that reflects our ability to consistently drop no more than nine strokes puts us up there with the elite.
But having reached this lofty standard, which no more than 10 per-cent of golfers ever achieve, how do we take it to the next level?
By claiming a Single Figure Golfer Tour Card there's the opportunity to play dozens of other courses with golfers of similar standard, compete in major competitions and earn valuable order of merit points which ultimately could earn you a place on the SFG team that takes on some of the professional legends of the game in a special challenge match from October 18-20, at Trevose in Cornwall.
In its three years of operation SFG has built a strong reputation and is determined to provide a haven for aspiring golfers looking to improve their game and widen their experience by playing competitively against their peers.
Cost of a SFG Tour Card is £49 which entitles a player to entry into the order of merit and SFG's annual matchplay as well as a hefty discount into respective major competitions at Woodhall Spa, The Oxfordshire and The Carrick all of which earn the winner a place on the SFG team in October. The top 21 in the Northern and South order of merit winners - gaining points from a schedule of events - will also progress to final qualifying tournaments for the chance to play on the team, captained by course designer and former amateur golf legend Peter McEvoy.
Following their defeat in the Challenge Cup final at The Celtic Manor last year, the golfing legends are determined to regain their dented pride against the single figure amateurs. Among those expected to take part are former Ryder Cup heroes Gordon Brand Jr, Steve Richardson, Philip Walton, Paul Way and Gordon J Brand and European Tour veterans Roger Chapman and John Hawksworth. The team captain is Solheim Cup supremo and former US Open winner Alison Nicholas.
SFG events are also supported by Glenmuir and Newland Tailoring and Srixon Golf, who provide free balls at certain tournaments, with bonus points offered towards the order of merit if players use either the Srixon Z-Star or Z-Star X ball.
