Triple Award for Landscape Photographer Emmanuel Coupé-Kalomiris at the 2011 International Photography Awards

The winning images entitled "Winter in the Rockies" are part of a larger collection of images taken in Lake Abraham, Alberta, Canada and in nearby national parks. The photographer had to overcome harsh winter conditions of low temperatures reaching below -30 C° and at times strong winds. Depicted in these images is also a rare phenomenon were gas bubbles are trapped underneath the frozen lake waters, creating a unique and seldom seen visual. Lake Abraham, which was one of the main photographic settings for this collection, is a particular lake set in an arid area of the Canadian Rockies. The dry weather allows the surface of the lake to be visible, as it is not covered in snow. The towering mountains around the lake complete this otherworldly landscape of frozen bubbles, deep blue and turquoise hues and jagged cracked ice surfaces.
In June 2011, for a different collection of ice abstracts taken in the area of Lake Abraham, Emmanuel Coupé - Kalomiris has also won Gold Medal at the Prix de la Photographie (PX3) competition based in Paris.

About the winner:
French born Emmanuel Coupé is an award winning landscape photographer. In 2009 he was nominated LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR after winning the Take a View competition in the United Kingdom.

His works have been featured in magazines and news outlets around the world such as BBC TV, Sunday Times, Practical Photography, Outdoor photography and more. His photographs have been exhibited in London, Paris, Athens and in the U.S.A
He recently took residence in Athens, Greece.
