FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Detroit, Michigan, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 26, 2012 -- It’s been a long and windy twelve years and two months since Honda started selling hybrid vehicles, but now the Japanese automaker is celebrating worldwide sales of over 800,000 gasoline-electric hybrids. The very first Honda hybrid, the Insight, premiered in Japan in November of 1999. As a dealership, Troy Honda fully stands behind Honda’s initiatives to create a positive, environmentally friendly world where hybrid and electric transportation is no longer seen as niche.

In 2011 alone, Honda raised its hybrid sales by thirty percent when they sold approximately 200,000 units. Whether it’s the spunky, sporty CR-Z, the versatile Civic Hybrid, or the classic Insight Hybrid, Honda’s lineup has something for every driver on the road. Honda now offers seven hybrid models in nearly 50 countries around the world and has launched the ILX hybrid for the Acura brand.

It all started back in 1999 when the first Insight rolled off the production assembly in Japan as one of the first hybrid vehicles to be commercially sold. Then in 2001, Honda converted a standard Civic to run with a hybrid power-plant and began selling it around the world. By August, 2009, a decade after the first Insight debuted, Honda has already sold 400,000 electric-gasoline vehicles. Then in just two years, they sold another 400,000 hybrids, proving that the fuel-efficient way of transportation had caught on in popularity. Cumulative hybrid sales in North American reached 338,872 units to date in December, 2011.

While selling cars is important to the Japanese automaker, Honda has cited it’s “Blue Skies For Our Children” campaign as one of the underlying principles behind increased hybrid design. Furthering the market penetration of hybrid vehicles to create a low carbon society is of paramount importance so that this beautiful Earth will be around for generations to come.

The world is changing and Honda is on the forefront of environmental automotive design. With the Fit EV debuting in California this month, Troy Honda would like to congratulate Honda on their steadfast guarantee to improve the planet for the next generation. Visit www.troyhonda.com for more.
