Newport Beach, CA, June 16, 2011. Tween Publishing is a little company on a big mission: to provide innovative and engaging curriculum for teaching middle school students essential college readiness skills. Tween is leading the way with The Middle School Student Guide to Ruling the World! ® series. This month, Tween rolled out the second program in its series: The College Path!
“The path to college really begins in middle school” says Susan Mulcaire, author of The Middle School Student Guide to Ruling the World! ® series. “The earlier a student sets a goal for college, the more likely it is that he or she will achieve that goal. The problem is, too many young students are turned off to the idea of four more years of school after high school. Others enter high school with little understanding of the college path, and quickly become overwhelmed.”
The College Path is a fun introduction to the tangible, lifelong benefits of a college education, and important college path terms and concepts. Fourteen age appropriate lessons and activities such as I Spy a College Campus!, Let’s Hit the Road! (Virtual Road Trip), Let’s Apply to College!, Alternative Paths to Success, Major Discoveries, and It’s On! College Sports, encourage middle school students to visualize themselves as college students, and step confidently on to the college path.
Mulcaire firmly believes that all middle school students be on a college path. “Middle school students are too young to make a decision, or choose a path eliminating college from their future. Ultimately a traditional four year college may not be the ideal postsecondary path for everyone, but college readiness is important for every student.”
The College Path follows on the heels of Tween’s popular curriculum The Middle School Student’s Guide to Ruling the World! Work Habits & Organizational Skills. The third resource in this series, Super Study Skills!, will be available in 2012.
“
Our resources eliminate the haphazard, inconsistent approach many schools take to teaching these essential skills” says Mulcaire. “Our goal is to provide a triple play of classroom ready, easy-to-teach resources for comprehensive, and progressive college readiness instruction for grades six, seven and eight. These resources are ideal for a college readiness exploratory, life skills, study skills, orientation, advisory, intervention and enrichment.”
