Union County New Jersey Limousine Driver Kills Pedestrian

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 19, 2009 -- A limousine driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Union County has been charged with careless driving, but the evidence did not provide the probable cause required for a criminal charge. Thus the man, if convicted, is only facing civil penalties for careless driving which include up to 15 days in jail, $200 in fines, and 2 points on the driver’s New Jersey license.

The accident took place as the pedestrian was crossing Mountain Avenue in Summit, New Jersey. The woman started crossing the road, and was almost halfway across when she was hit by a limousine making a right hand turn onto the road. The limousine driver was going under 25mph when the accident took place. The driver never saw her, but he did have enough time to both see her and avoid the collision. It was determined that there was nothing obstructing his view of her. Since the accident, many residents have been complaining about traffic safety in the community, and the police have been heavily regulating the area with traffic and speed monitors.
