Previously, Professor Burton served as Professor of Emergency Medicine at Albany Medical College and Professor of Surgery at the University of Vermont School of Medicine. Professor Burton is Fellow, American College of Emergency Physicians and Diplomat, American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Professor Burton received his M.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and completed his postgraduate work in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a prolific writer and credited with over 100 peer reviewed articles, abstracts and papers. In addition, he is the author Emergency Sedation and Pain Management, an eminent and well received textbook discourse in the field of Emergency Medicine.
