Families with loved ones suffering with substance addictions or alcohol misuse are invited to celebrate RECOVERY DAY Sept. 18, 2010 in Provo

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Provo, Utah, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) September 7, 2010 -- More than 22 million people in the United States have been classified with substance use disorders in the past year, and an estimated thirty thousand people in Utah County alone are affected by addiction. To raise awareness of this disease and inform people of the available treatment and recovery resources, Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness will host a FREE wellness fair in Provo on Saturday, September 18 from 3:00 until 7:00 pm. www.utahrecoveryday.com

The wellness fair is part of the 21st observance of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month (Recovery Month), sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This year’s theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Now More Than Ever!,” intends to educate the general public as well as specific groups on how daily and increased stress can contribute to substance misuse, as well as the effectiveness of treatment and the possibility of recovery.

The fair will educate the community about substance use disorders, promote positive approaches to combating stress, and honor those living a healthy life in recovery. Local providers of addiction treatment and resources will be available to families and friends of those in recovery as well as those still suffering from addiction to answer your questions. Activities are for all ages and consist of a recovery resource fair, entertainment, pony rides, free food and children’s activities. Four keynote speakers, including Nathan Andersen, Jody Delaney, and Jeanne Lauree Olsen, will share their stories of overcoming addiction triggered by stressful situations, and their lives in long-term recovery. Booths will provide health care services such as information on substance use prevention and treatment, stress management, and support groups, as well as on-site glucose and blood pressure testing.
