David Blanchflower, economist said in 2008 during the financial crisis 'I have concerns that something horrible might come," And now that something has come to pass. The number of unemployed people aged 16 to 24 is almost reaching 1 million, according to government figures. It is the highest level of youth unemployment on record. Rhys Harrison, a 24-year-old chef from Pontypridd, has been out of work for almost 2 years. "I've applied for about 200-220 jobs in Pontypridd, Cardiff, Merthyr and the valleys in general," says Harrison. "But there's nothing happening." Venom Advertising, a company that is constantly progressing, and will be expanding to Italy in the near future lives by ‘determination is the key to success’ and has said “I do feel for these young people, the economy is so harsh right now, but they shouldn’t give up, there is a career opportunity out there somewhere for them.”

Tanya de Grunwald, founder of GraduateFog.com, a website that addresses graduate problems said “Something has gone very, very wrong for a whole generation.” Approximately 1 in 5 young people can't find employment, so they often can't leave home and stay financially dependent on their parents. They are stuck in a confidence-draining routine of application after application, rejection after rejection. The managing director of Venom Advertising has commented on this, saying, “My advice to job seekers would always be to sell yourself in every interview you attend. There’s nothing more important than a first impression. Just give it your all.”

Director of the Institute for Employment Studies, Nigel Meager, has said "The economy has changed in the past 20-plus years; there are fewer jobs for people with no qualifications. Jobs that used to go to people with school-leaving qualifications are now going to graduates.” The managing director of Venom Advertising has commented on this, saying “something drastic has to be done, this number is not going to decrease unless something is done soon – the unemployment rate will rise if the government don’t find a way to pull the UK out of this slump.”
