Google has begun a pilot project which allows the public to be able to look inside shops and other businesses found on its Google maps. It is an extension of the Google’s Street View technology, which already allows users to view 360-degree exterior images which have prompted some privacy complaints from people who claimed the technology was intrusive. Google have however said that the new system was on an entirely voluntary basis. Venom Advertising, a company that believes whole heartedly that determination is the key for success says “I think it’s a great idea – at the end of the day, if you don’t want to participate then you don’t have to but it will be a great feature that I think will rank highly among existing Google users”
“Building on the Google Art Project, which took Street View technology inside 17 acclaimed museums, this project is another creative implementation of Street View technology, to help businesses as they build their online presence,”-”We hope to enable businesses to highlight the qualities that make their locations stand out through professional, high-quality imagery.” said a company spokesman. A source from Venom Advertising has commented on this, saying, “As this new feature is to help business further build their presence online and I can only see this as a good thing for many companies.”
To begin with it is limited to select locations including London, Paris and a few cities in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the US. The US Company said it was starting the process by inviting the most searched types of businesses to request a visit by its photographers. Google have said that these included restaurants, hotels, shops, gyms and vehicle repair workshops. It has however excluded big-brand chains for the time being. Hospitals and lawyers' offices have also been ruled out. The Managing Director of Venom Advertising has said, “Venom Advertising are soon going to expand from the UK to Italy, Expansion is key in every business whether it be location or new strategies and ideas. I support Google’s plan and can’t wait to see it in action!”
