The Telly Awards has named Veteran Pictures Studios, a Webby Award-winning Online Film & Video Studio in Chicago, as a Bronze winner in the 34th Annual Telly Awards.
Chicago, IL “ February 11th, 2013 “ The Telly Awards has named Veteran Pictures Studios, a Webby Award-winning Online Film & Video Studio in Chicago, as a Bronze winner in the 34th Annual Telly Awards for their short films titled VESSEL and Adirondack, respectively. With nearly 11,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this is truly an honor.
VESSEL won the Bronze Telly Award in the Online Film & Video “ Drama Category. œWith VESSEL [or Vital-Electronic System Soul Extension Life-Unit], I took the popular science-fiction concept of human robotics and infused it with the mythic element of the human soul, writer/director Carlo Treviso explained. The film tells the personal tale of a young couple who experience the mysterious soul extraction and transference procedure. The controversial process is conducted at the precise moment of death.
Adirondack won the Bronze Telly Awards in the Online Film & Video “ Comedy & Children Categories. œI set out to create a Walt Disney-inspired mockumentary about a manned mission Mars, Treviso explained. œIn Adirondack, scientists discover that the Martian ice cap is melting and decide to send the first dog sled team to the Red Planet for exploration. Both films were invited to screen last summer at Chicon 7, the 70th World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon") in Chicago, IL.
The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.
For its 34th season, The Telly Awards once again joined forces with YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos submitted as part of the People's Telly Awards. In addition to recognition from the Silver Telly Council, the judging panel that selects the Telly Awards winners, the Internet community helps decide the People's Telly Awards winners.
A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work “ entries do not compete against each other “ rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10% of entries are chosen as Winners of the Silver Telly, our highest honor. Approximately 25% of entries are chosen as Winners of the Bronze Telly.
œThe Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video, said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. œVeteran Pictures's accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.
As a storyteller, Treviso is inspired by the power of ancient myth. And like the great myths of our ancestors, he believes that the best science fiction should serve as a poetic allegory of the human condition. Within his own body of work, he hopes to shift the general audience perception of science fiction to a more myth-centric, fairy tale-like experience. œOnce upon a time...happily ever after. That's the golden ingredient, Treviso explained. ¨¨
