The Silver Spring Big Cherry Block Party is held on 2 April 2011 and the Virginia Kenshinkai of the Capital Area Budokai are performing (http://www.capitalareabudokai.org/battodoiaido.html). This year’s event hosts a plethora of local Japanese tradition, culture and talent through music, dance, entertainment, arts and crafts and food. While visitors shop and enjoy a country we have long admired and shared a friendship with, Downtown Silver Spring expresses its condolences and sentiment for the Japanese nation. This block party respectfully celebrates with a hope for a new beginning, health and restoration to the country of Japan.
American Red Cross CEO along with Japan’s Ambassador His Excellency Ichiro Fujisaki appeal to support and donate to stricken Japan. Both will be joined by Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett in a moment of silence. Other National Cherry Blossom dignitaries such as Executive Director Diana Mayhew will be present. Renown Japanese movie producer and choreographer Shizumi Manale and the Shizumi Manale Kodomo Dance Troupe will open the event with a beautiful traditional Japanese dance. Classically trained Japanese musicians from the Baltimore Canon will play and accompany. Again, take part in supporting Japan locally and enjoy a beautiful spring day out.
