Voice of Vietnamese Americans stands in solidarity with the international communities to condemn Ha Noi’s sentence against Lawyer Cu Huy Ha Vu as severe violations of multiple human rights issues including police misconduct, arbitrary detention, violations of privacy, land grabbing, neglect of due process and repression of freedom of expression.

Voice of Vietnamese Americans stands in solidarity with ninety millions Vietnamese to support Lawyer Cu Huy Ha Vu in challenging a dictatorship under the one-party-system that Ha Noi has been trying to protect.

Multiple cases of severe corruptions including the most current Vinashin scandal, the Securency affair, the notorious PMU-18 affair, the abusing power of all State Owned Enterprises (SOEs), have flourished into a systemic dilemma as the Communist Party of Vietnam continues to oppress freedom of speech. Consequentially, the Communist Party of Vietnam has pushed the Vietnamese People into economic crisis, education crisis, health care crisis, environmental crisis, security crisis, and most importantly, putting Vietnam’s sovereignty at risks.

Lawyer Cu Huy Ha Vu, who earned his law degree from France, with his good citizen conscience, has provided legal advices to his clients and the Vietnamese people at large. The Communist Party of Vietnam when abused its monopolized power to sentence a respectable lawyer to seven years in jail has stepped over its bounds and therefore, has lost its legitimacy to govern a nation with established tradition of honoring intellectual wisdom. The Communist Party of Vietnam has undermined the voice of its own people by this very act of oppressing freedom of expression. The Communist Party of Vietnam has violated the Constitution of Vietnam (Article 69), and violated the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights which it has committed to uphold.

Voice of Vietnamese Americans condemns this violation of basic human rights, and strongly urges the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to honor freedom of expression, to immediately release lawyer Cu Huy Ha Vu, and to release all other dissidents imprisoned for exercising their basic human rights.

Voice of Vietnamese Americans stands in solidarity with the Vietnamese People in their quest for human rights, civil rights, democracy, liberty, and justice for all.
