January 25, 2012 Home Decoration news in Long Island,New York, United States of America

The frustration of waiting for a Long Island painting contractor that proves to be unreliable from start to finish. The homeowners nightmare.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Long Island, New York, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 25, 2012 -- You made an appointment with a local painter to have an estimate for a few rooms you would like to freshen. When you called the business, they picked up the phone, took all your information including phone number and gave you a mutually accepted time. Now, it is Thirty minutes past that time and the painted has not showed or even called.

Forty Five minutes pass, then an hour. Finally, the doorbell rings and it is “Joe” from “Unreliable painting of Long Island”. Forget that the kids are waiting to be picked up from soccer and dinner is going to be late, “Joe” is there. “Joe” gives no apology and has a nice story of why he is late. You think to yourself ”Why didn’t he call me, I gave him a phone number?”

“Joe” gives a great presentation and you like his price, he gets the job. You figure, he seems to be a good enough guy, perhaps he had a bad day. You set up an appointment for Monday and give a 50% deposit.

Monday comes and you take the dog to Mom’s house and buy some doughnuts for the crew. But, by 9:00, nobody shows up to paint. You call “Joe”, you get his voice mail. 10:00 a.m. and you have now eaten 3 doughnuts and call him again, no answer. By 11:00, you have given up hope and the doorbell rings. You say to yourself “Well, at least they are finally here”. You expect to see a crew and are surprised when a single man shows up. He introduces himself and smiles. he says he has no idea about what was planned but “Joe” told him to go here and prepare. You ask if ‘Joe” is coming. The man smiles and says “I do not know”.

The man moves whatever furniture he can by himself and excuses himself for lunch at noon. he comes back at 1:30 and say’s he cannot move anything else as he has no help. You are angry and call “Joe”. Did you expect him to answer?

Tuesday, “Joe” shows up at 8:00 a.m. and he has a crew. Things are looking up. There are four men, but you do not see yesterdays smiling man. These men do not have company uniforms, speak no English, one wears blue Jeans and three are wearing painters pants. “Joe” apologizes and says “Things are crazy”. he barks some instructions, his phone rings and he picks it up and goes outside. An hour passes, the men have no direction. The guy in the blue Jeans is rolling the walls without doing any prep work or painting the ceiling. A second man is on his cell phone and walking around a lot. The third guy seems to be on the ball and is covering furniture and repairing the walls. The fourth guy spends most of his time littering your driveway with his cigarette butts. You look for “Joe” but he is gone. You call him and he does not answer, but you already knew that. The men work until lunch and then eat. They leave their garbage on your clean kitchen table and make a mess of your bathroom. Somehow the men are able to ponder through the day as you instruct them what needs to be done by pointing and pantomiming. Then at 3:30 your smiling friend from yesterday comes back, gives some orders, then the men are gone.

Wednesday comes and the men don’t. Your house is a mess and you are missing work. “Joe” told you this would be a three day job. You complain to your spouse and get into a big fight.

Thursday, the single man comes back with 2 other guys you never saw before. A little later, “Joe” arrives. You are angry at the chaos and tell “Joe”. You expect an apology or humility. “Joe” say’s “Why are you being so difficult?” and “You do not understand” and then “I am doing the best I can”. He threatens to walk off the job even though you paid half and less than that is completed. Plus, it is not the quality you were promised. You are a little intimidated and decide to remain quiet.

Friday comes and you fire “Joe”. You are angry. You decide to check “Joe” out. You call Consumer Affairs and they have no record of any company “Unreliable Painting of Long Island”. There is no license or insurance information on him and ask if you know his last name. You do not. They take a verbal report but cannot help you. Then you look up the BBB online. “Joe” has very poor marks. You call him and leave a message that you want part of your deposit back.

Did you really think he would answer?
