Wales rugby stars put their money through its paces ahead of the Six Nations

January 18, 2012

Principality offers free 15 minutes money workout to help you achieve your financial new year resolutions.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 18, 2012 -- Wales Rugby World Cup players have started the New Year with a different sort of workout.

Ahead of the pre six nations training camp at the end of the month, Wales international stars and Newport Gwent Dragons players, Dan Lydiate, Toby Faletau and Luke Charteris, joined Principality Building Society staff to put their money through its paces.

The building society’s 15 minute money workout campaign launches this month, helping people to achieve their financial New Year’s resolutions.

Corrina Colley, Customer Advisor at Queen Street Principality branch, said: “Getting healthy results involves a good hard session at the gym – you get back what you put in - and this basic principle also applies to getting the most out of your money.

“Regularly reviewing your finances will help to identify where you can make cut-backs – perhaps trim your monthly mortgage payments or move some dormant savings into a better paying account. It takes as little as 15 minutes to run through your financial situation and check everything is in good shape for the future. If you find its not, now is a great time to overhaul your finances and make preparations to try and beat the 2011 hangover of pay freezes, austerity measures and a gloomy economic backdrop.”

Taking the 15 minute money workout is free at any of Principality’s 52 branches or 13 agencies across Wales and the borders and by putting your money through its paces you could be in with a chance to win a pair of VIP tickets for you and a friend to see Wales play France in the Six Nations at the Millennium Stadium.

Wales flanker, Danny Lydiate, said: “Just like sport, saving money requires commitment, dedication and keeping a healthy eye on the competition to ensure that you always stay ahead – reaching your savings goal can be just as much of a thrill as scoring a try in front of a 74,500 strong roaring crowd at the Millennium Stadium!

Wales lock Luke Charteris, described himself as more of a saver than a spender, adding: “I tend to apply the same focus to my savings as I do to my rugby career. I look at the end outcome – what I want to achieve in 10 years time – and then I set short and long term goals to enable me to get there. I am aware that rugby is a short term career and so I have been making investments for the future, mainly building a healthy property portfolio. In 10 years time I aim to have paid off one of my mortgages, which I hope will give me some flexibility, so in the meantime I am trying to make more safe investments and cut-back spending where I can – I am currently trying, not very successfully, to grow my own vegetables!”
Principality’s 15 minute workout reviews all aspects of your finances to help assess whether you can reduce your monthly mortgage repayments, earn more interest on your savings or just simply help you to put plans in place for a healthy financial future.
