WATC SPORTS: WHAT’S YOUR DEFINITION OF A SPORT?
Charlotte, North Carolina, November 22, 2010 – WATC Sports has officially arrived in Charlotte to ease the minds of many art forms. With sports being highlighted in the form of turntablism, WATC Sports unveiling could not have come at a better time for the art enthusiast of Charlotte, NC.
WATC (We Are The Champions) Sports is a nationally distinguished and professional league of the highest caliber of Disc Jockeys, Athletes and Teams. The purpose of WATC Sports is to highlight and promote the art of turntablism as well as introduce the art of Turntablism as a sport. The WATC is part of several tours and also hosts several competitions throughout the U.S., allowing the top disc jockeys in the country to compete for the WATC Titles, Championship Belts and other prizes. The WATC holds competitions for many different art forms, such as DJing, B-Boy Dance Style, and Tattoos to name a few.
For the past three years, WATC Sports has introduced Charlotte, NC to the sport of turntablism by hosting disc jockey competitions at Imagin-On. This year, WATC has taken on a new realm by partnering with several organizations to bring you the best our competitions have to offer. With tour dates scheduled to begin in 2011, each of these events will capture the unique skills of these Table Kingz nationally. As an added component, this year viewers will be able to witness the dynamic moves of some of the finest b-boys in the world.
With all of these happenings, WATC Sports has recognized Charlotte, NC to be its home for launching events. As an added bonus to the City of Charlotte, WATC has claimed this city to be the first to acknowledge turntablism as a sport. Each of these intense competitions are fierce, with judges participating from major musical industries around the world. Portions of the proceeds from WATC Sports will help to fund the award-winning program With These Hands Mix Academy based in Charlotte, NC, a non-profit organization that was formed in 2005 to teach students ages 12-18 a skill or trade in the world of music; Disc Jockeying. With These Hands provides underserved youth with conflict resolution education, cultural awareness, academic accountability and service projects through regular program meetings and corporate as well as community partnerships.
WATC Sports was designed for the art-filled minds of all cultures. By capturing other’s views and perspectives of art, WATC Sports wants to enlighten the world by displaying these unknown arts. Whatever your sport may be, you will most definitely find a place for it inside of WATC Sports. With a motto of Compete! Win! Defend! one will truly be amazed at the uniqueness of this organization.
