Water Parks And Thermal Baths In Tuscany And Sardinia
I used to stay at a family holiday home near Civitavecchia with my own children and several other hangers-on, and all they wanted to do was go to Acqua Felix, the water park a few kilometres away.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 24, 2011 --
There are two on the Tuscan coast, both run by the same company, one at Cecina Mare and the other in Follonica, so within easy reach of a good many of our Tuscany villas. You can find out about prices, opening hours and directions on their English-language web site. As well as the slides and pools, there are of course places to eat and just chill out in the sun. Water games are organised and although there’s a lot of people, they’re very careful to look after the kids.
There’s one in Sardinia too, called Acquadream, and it’s only 3 kilometres West of Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda, just South of Baja Sardinia. Difficult to tear yourself away from the blue clear sea, I know, but the young ones will love you for it. Special treat. Here’s a page with a full listing of water parks for other parts of Italy.
For a slightly more relaxing day out, there are a number of spas and thermal baths all around the country. The one I’ve been to is the Terme di Saturnia termedisaturniain the province of Saturnia. The mineral-rich waters have been thought to promote health for centuries, and a day there is a real “pampering” experience.
On a horse in Tuscany
Horse riding in all its forms, from show jumping to dressage, cross-country to trekking is an integral part of the activities of the country estate where our Villa della Pia and Borgo della Pia are located. Not only do visitors enjoy luxurious surroundings in the villas, but a newly inaugurated facility within walking distance of the villas allows your horse too a fantastic holiday in the beautiful Tuscan countryside – in the Maremma to be exact, an area well known for equestrian traditions and activities.
The Maremma has its own variety of horse, the Maremmano, a large and powerful horse still used today by the “Butteri”, the horse-borne herders of cattle in Tuscany and the area north of Rome. If you’re lucky, you may be able to join in one of the festivals taking place in various towns and villages where these can be seen in their distinctive historical outfits.
There’s a livery stable to cosset your equine friend and if you don’t bring your own, there are horses of all kinds available for hire by the day, together with the compulsory hard hat too, of course(Tuscany Villa Rental ).
A large sand arena beckons those who favour show-jumping and dressage, and kilometres of trails are available to those who just want to picnic.
Fly into Rome on the Saturday and check into your Dolce Vita Villa. Spend Sunday exploring the delights of the city, particularly the Jewish ghetto which offers a wide selection of wonderful pastry shops. Then, on Monday, whilst everyone else is preparing for work, climb into a rental car (Dolce Vita Villas can also organise a transfer for you) and hit the slopes! Here’s what you can do within 2 hours’ drive of Rome.
There’s a guide on hand (notice please!) for the explorers, and even though the estate is 30 kilometres away from the sea, there’s even a trail that takes you to the famously beautiful and not too crowded Tuscan coast between Follonica and Castiglione della Pescaia. If some of your party (and that party can be as large as 30 in the two villas) are not such keen horse riders, then there’s a tennis court (Villas Venice Italy) and of course the incomparable beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea not too far away.
The biggest ski resort in central Italy (110km of slopes), Roccaraso has a lot to offer experienced and inexperienced skiers and is only 2 hours’ drive from central Rome. Ski passes are €33 for adults and €28 for children/over 65s. It even has a ice skating rink for those who would like an alternative to skiing
