Stencil art can be found on the streets of every major city. The upcoming art show, “Weapons of Mass Production 4: A Stencil Art Show” will explore this current art phenomenon in a gallery setting on May 6. This group exhibition presented by Thumbprint Gallery and Sudden Art Gallery will be on display at the Industry Showroom. This will be the fourth installment of “Weapons of Mass Production,” which has graced venues all over San Diego, including Bar Basic and Thumbprint Gallery.
One of the featured artists will be Jonathan Wakuda Fischer, who has shown in galleries all across the world, including venues in Seattle, San Francisco, and Australia. Fischer’s work concentrates on his experience growing up in Northwestern Wisconsin as a Japanese-American. Last year Fischer held a solo exhibition at 5024SEA Gallery in Seattle. The artist also won an award at a group exhibition at the Sweet Streets Urban Art Festival in Melbourne, Australia. Other venues Fischer has exhibited in include, Lower Haters Gallery in San Francisco, Artxchange in Seattle, and the LoFi Performance space in Seattle.
Some of the other featured artists will include Acamonchi, Brent Takayama, Michael Mahaffey, Grandlarsen, Keemo, and many others. True Delorenzo will be painting live portraits in the bar area, while Rory Canfield and Andre Power! paint live in the front room. The event will also feature a performance by Good Vibrations street dancers. DJs Johnny Tran, drdiggs, and Selektor RZO will provide the beats for the evening.
The event will start at 7pm and run until 12am. There is no cover and all ages will be admitted. However, you must be over the age of 21 to drink. The Industry Showroom is located at 345 Sixth Avenue in downtown.
