Welsh books on Amazon's Kindle

Many people will have received Amazon's Kindle as a present from Santa this Christmas. For the first time ever there will be a selection of Welsh language books to read on the Kindle this year. Y Lolfa has published nine of its popular novels as ebooks on Amazon's website. Garmon Gruffudd on behalf of Y Lolfa said,“Because of the demand from Welsh readers we have decided to publish a few of our most popular Welsh novels on the Kindle this year. We hope that this will mean that people who live outside the catchment area of Welsh language bookshops will be able to buy our books electronically.”

Y Lolfa has published ebooks on its website for almost four years but this is the first time that Welsh language books have been available on the Kindle. Amongst the books available is Dyn Pob Un (Every one's man) a satirical novel about the media and Yr Alarch Du (The Black Swan) a mystery novel set in Caernarfon.

Garmon Gruffudd added,“Over the year we have had difficulties in getting Amazon to allow us to publish Welsh books on the Kindle but it seems as if we've found a short term solution at last. I'm sure there'll be a far wider choice in the next few months and books will be available on all platforms. I hope that this will help to create a wider audience for Welsh language books, especially to Welsh speakers in England, Scotland and overseas.”
