Robert J Weltchek, senior partner, is proud to announce the formation of the medical malpractice, personal injury, and product liability case law firm Weltchek, Mallahan, & Weltchek based in Lutherville, Maryland.
The firm represents cases of medical malpractice, medical negligence, cerebral palsy, birth injury, catastrophic injury, pharmaceutical liability, product liability, toxic torts, environmental law, and complex business litigation in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. metropolital area.
Robert J. Weltchek will soon be entering his fourth decade of practice as one of the most esteemed and respected trial attorneys in the country. Mr Weltchek is a creative and tenacious advocate for his client’s interests, evidenced by his impeccable record of recovering landmark verdicts. His success has not gone unnoticed. Best Lawyers in America has recognized Weltchek as one of the top personal injury lawyers in the country. The American Trial Lawyers Association named him as one of Maryland’s top 100 trial lawyers, and regional publications such as Baltimore Magazine and Superlawyers have recognized him as one of the top attorneys in Maryland. Mr. Weltchek is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, a distinguished honor achieved by less than 1% of the nation's lawyers. Additionally, he has received an AV Rating by Martindale-Hubble, signifying “very high to pre-imminent legal ability and very high ethical standards as established by confidential opinions from members of the bar.”
Robert J. Weltchek has spent his entire career representing the victims of professional negligence, corporate misconduct and defective products. He has obtained several of the largest personal injury verdicts in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Among his most notable personal injury verdicts are:
• A $10,250,000 jury verdict in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City against Carefirst and a private practicing physician for the negligent delivery of a child resulting in permanent brain injury;

In addition to dozens of multi-million dollar personal injury verdicts, Robert J. Weltchek has received:
• A $150,000,000 jury verdict in Baltimore County against ExxonMobil in a 6-month trial stemming from massive groundwater contamination. The jury verdict is believed to be one of the largest in Maryland history.
• A $25,000,000 jury verdict in Essex County, New Jersey against Bell Atlantic Corporation for defrauding a small business owner.
• He has also obtained confidential multi-million dollar settlements against two major American auto manufacturers alleging negligent design of the seatbelts, the U.S. Government for a mistaken shooting by an FBI agent, and against Publishers Clearing House for allegedly defrauding a small business.
In addition to the above, Mr. Weltchek obtained one of the largest settlements in U.S. history, $185,000,000 in a case involving accounting/consulting malpractice against Ernst & Young, and was later hired by Ernst & Young to sue a prominent Washington, D.C. law firm for legal malpractice.
