West Hartford Support Group

(Free-Press-Release.com) February 9, 2010 -- February 24, 2010....The Lupus Foundation, CT Chapter, will hold the February support group on February 24, 2010 from 6:30 PM to 8PM in West Hartford. Individuals with lupus are invited to attend. The meeting is completely confidential and new members are always welcome. It is platform for sharing and caring about coping with lupus. A men's group also meets at the same time.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease which can be destructive to any major organ or tissue in the body. The disease can be very unpredictable and is potentially fatal, yet no satisfactory treatment or a cure exists. Approximately 1.5 million Americans and at least five million people worldwide have a form of lupus and 17,000 in Connecticut alone. Lupus strikes mostly females ages 15-44, although anyone can develop lupus. African American women are 2-3 times more likely to develop lupus. The Lupus Foundation of America is the nation's leading nonprofit voluntary health organization dedicated to finding the cause of and cure for lupus and providing support, services, and hope to all people affected by lupus. The LFA and its nationwide network of nearly 30 chapters and support groups, like the Connecticut Chapter, conduct programs of research, education, and advocacy. The Connecticut Chapter of the Lupus Foundation serves more than 17,000 individuals and their families affected by lupus.
