LILLY FAMILY SETS A GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR WORLD’S LARGEST FAMILY REUNION

Flat Top, West Virginia – September 17, 2009 – On August 7-9th, 2009, West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III, filmmaker and event organizer Chad Meador and the Lilly Family and Friends all gathered in Flat Top, West Virginia to make the Lilly family’s historic 80th annual reunion even more special with a Guinness World Record. Just over a month later, they received word earlier today from GWR Officials in New York City that the family’s dream is now a reality.

Guinness Adjudications Manager Danny Girton Jr., who was present at the ‘09 reunion, released this statement: “Details of your accomplishment are entered into GWR’s database as the following: ‘The largest family reunion is 2,585 and was achieved by the Lilly family at Flat Top, West Virginia, USA, on 9 August 2009’.”

Filmmaker Chad Meador, who won the Audience Choice Award at the 2007 West Virginia Filmmakers Festival for his documentary “Method in the Mountains”, released a documentary of the 2008 Family Reunion, and will be finishing the world-record-setting 2009 Lilly Family Reunion DVD by this Christmas.
