This is no time to celebrate, but Nikki Senopoulos takes time out of her High School teams State Volleyball tournament run, to sign her National Letter of Intent for Sand Volleyball at Georgia State University. Her team, West Windsor Plainsboro High School South won the South Jersey Group III finals on Thursday in West Orange, NJ. This Saturday they will play the New Jersey State finals at William Patterson University and hopefully the NJ tournament of Champions. This is Nikki’s last year playing Indoor Volleyball so she wants to make it count. Last year her team lost in the state finals to Old Tappan headed by Aiyana Whitney, who now plays for Penn State. “Aiyana really had my number”, said Nikki. “I’m glad the coaches from Georgia State never saw that match. But this year we have a great team and several of my teammates are also being recruited. It’s fun having all the coaches follow us around to our games.”

Senopoulos’ indoor skills have taken her far but, where she really excels is at sand volleyball. The NCAA only recently approved women's sand volleyball as a sanctioned college sport, so the timing couldn’t be better for Nikki. Her signing makes her a member of an elite group of players breaking new ground in volleyball and she holds the distinction of being the first player in the Northeastern U.S. to receive a college sand volleyball scholarship.

VolleyChick has been following Nikki for three years and we like what we see! We were impressed at Nikki’s play at the Big Shot Volleyball Championships in Atlantic City this year. When she won the Great American Volleyball Juniors championship this summer (without losing a game) we knew she would be someone to watch as the sand colleges started to formulate their teams.

Last spring Nikki attended Beach Dig’s college recruiting camp with Coach Cindy in Ft Lauderdale, Florida and attracted attention from several college coaches. Over the summer Nikki also partnered with several VolleyChick’s in AA and Open competition at the Jersey Shore. Over the next ten months VolleyChick plans on helping her get ready for the inaugural season of sand volleyball at Georgia State University. All of us at VolleyChick wish Nikki the best of success at Georgia State. We are so proud of her and look forward to mentoring the next Jersey Girl for college sand volleyball!
