Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund Grant Awarded to Safe Haven Shelter for Women and Children
The Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund has awarded a job training program grant to the Safe Haven Shelter for Women and Children in Hot Springs, Arkansas
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 28, 2011 --
In keeping with the Weyerhaeuser Corporation’s sustainability strategy, a Giving Fund grant has been awarded to the Safe Haven Shelter for Women and Children’s job training project. Safe Haven Shelter for Women and Children has, as its primary goal, to provide a safe and comfortable shelter for a diverse community of homeless women and children in this area and to create an environment of dignity, respect and compassion while providing shelter and meeting the needs of hungry and food insecure women and children. Safe Haven plans to conduct an in-house job training project providing personal instruction, support, and job skills training for these homeless and indigent women living in poverty in the Hot Springs and Garland County area.
Weyerhaeuser and SHSWC recognize the myriad of issues making employment and self-sufficiency difficult for women in poverty. Helping low-income women learn self reliance and achieve emotional and mental stability as they become stable workers and citizens is the goal of their job-training program. According to Janie Evins, chair of the Safe Haven Board of Directors, this program will include a work setting in which residents can gain skills in production and packaging, retail and internet sales, budget management, customer service, display and advertising and other competencies which in turn improve their confidence and self-image and their ability to enter the workforce.
The Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund not only supports this project but numerous other philanthropic efforts across the nation which help cultivate growing minds and bodies, promote sustainable communities and nurture quality of life in Weyerhaeuser communities. Employees in Weyerhaeuser locations serve as advisors to the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund, make funding recommendations based on the unique needs and priorities of their particular communities, and help create better places to live, work and play.
