"The parallels are uncanny. Both cases were used to mobilize English society for a foreign war, and to justify policies of domestic repression," he says.

"Today the British are the most surveilled nation in the world, because of legislation rammed through in the wake of the London Tube Bombings -- and America is following suit.

"Both Fawkes and the Muslim lads from Leeds supposedly attempted to use homemade explosives, which would never even have worked. And in both cases, they were duped by agents of the crown," the author of "Terror on the Tube" believes.

Of course, there were also differences: "Fawkes probably did intend to bomb Parliament, but was stopped. The Muslim boys apparently believed it was a secret anti-terror drill, yet the bombings were carried out, by MI-6 etc. False-flag terror is a very old trick, with endless variations."
