Why Do People Snore?
When most people think of Why Do People Snore? what comes to mind is usually
basic information that's not particularly interesting or beneficial. But there's
a lot more to Why Do People Snore? than just the basics.
So far, we've uncovered some interesting facts about Why Do People Snore?. You
may decide that the following information is even more interesting.
During sleep, certain collapsible parts at the back of our mouth near the throat
relax and dangle. The air flow due to breathing causes the snoring sound when
these loose tissues flip and vibrate.
Most snoring is caused due to one of the following:
Snoring Cause #1 - Nasal construction problems
The underlying bone of the nasal bridge that separates one nostril from the
other (also called the nasal septum), can obstruct air flow due to deformities.
Snoring Cause #2 - breathing through the mouth
Once the jaw drops during sleep, the tongue falls back towards the throat. This
obstructs the air passage to the throat and would cause vibration and produces
this type of snoring.
Snoring Cause #3 - An extra long soft palate and uvula
As the person breaths, these muscles can dangle acting like flutter valves that
make it difficult for normal, unobstructed breathing.
Snoring Cause #4 - An excess of fleshy structure in the throat
With more tissues, the likelihood of them colliding and vibrating is much
higher, resulting in snoring. Some of the causes of this include abnormal
tonsils or adenoids. People who suffer from obesity have larger necks that in
turn narrow the air passage and add more obstructions due to excess tissue
matter. Cysts and tumors can also cause snoring, but this is not as common.
Snoring Cause #5 - An Obstructed nasal passage
This can inhibit the transmission of air to the lungs. People with congestion
end up breathing extra hard. This produces a vacuum in the throat and the parts
that dangle loosely in the respiratory tract may start to vibrate. Even though
the person is not normally a snorer, the chances of him or her snoring while
affected by allergies is considerable. This would also explain why some people
are prone to snoring when they have a cold.
Snoring Cause #6 - Bad Sleeping Position
When people sleep on their backs, the tongue has a tendency to fall back and
obstruct the breathing passages. Whether the person sleeps with his/her mouth
open or not, they will likely end up snoring in time if they do not already do
so.
