(Free-Press-Release.com) September 27, 2009 -- NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FLORIDA – Many in the auto industry are hoping a dealership reopening could be a sign of the times.
Slumping sales forced owner Jack Holcomb to close the dealership last December. He moved their entire inventory to their Chevy dealership.
On September 28, he will move the New Smyrna Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Dealership back to its previous address at 1300 N. Dixie Freeway.

The large building on U.S. 1 has been empty since December of last year, when the operation was moved a mile north to share facilities with New Smyrna Chevrolet at 1919 N. Dixie Freeway. Now with new paint, state of the art Service Department as well as a million-dollar inventory has the dealership more than ready to reopen Monday.
"Obviously with the moves GM is making, we can't have two franchises in one building. With the way we are structured, it's beneficial for us to be back in separate buildings," Holcomb said Friday. "We think the economy is getting better, and that there is money with which to buy cars again."
Tight credit late last year led to a rapid decline in new vehicle sales, threatening the existence of many dealerships. Holcomb merged his two dealerships and cut expenses by about 40 percent. In so doing, he had to cut 30 jobs.

"Our decision was to hunker down and do what we needed to survive. We secured the largest number of employees that we could. It was unpopular at the time, but looking back, I would do the same thing again," he said. "We’ve seen significant profit increases ever since we merged."
General Motors’ emergence from high profile bankruptcy cases has strengthened consumer confidence in the two automakers, which should increase sales at the New Smyrna Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Dealership.
Holcomb owns the land and building at 1300 N. Dixie. He has spent $168,000 to refurbish the facility before the move back. A new roof, paint job and floor are the primary improvements. About 12 to 15 people will be hired initially for the reopening.

Holcomb is leasing the Chevrolet site, and the lease expires in 2015. By then, he hopes to move both dealerships west of the city core, establishing the Smyrna Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Dealership on State Road 44.
"That is where the growth is going to be, and we want to be where consumers can get to us easily," he said. "We'll try and work with the city so as to get the best arrangement for everyone."
