WOMAN TRADING GREEN FUZZY PEN FOR TWO COLLEGE EDUCATIONS
A Michigan woman is using simple trading to send her children to college. “I’m going to make a continuous chain of ‘up trades’ until I get a house. Or an island. Or a yacht. Then I will sell that and use the money to send my kids to college.”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 20, 2010 --
Deborah Richmond, who describes herself as a crazy mom with a crazy dream, is offering to trade a green fuzzy pen for a college education for her two teenagers.
Her idea is based on a similar instance in Canada in 2005 of a man who traded a red paperclip for a house. The plan is ingeniously simple. “I’m going to make a continuous chain of ‘up trades’ until I get a house. Or an island. Or a yacht. Then I will sell that and use the money to send my kids to college.”
Richmond says she will be making each exchange in person, so she can thank each person who helps this single mother with her dream of a college education for her children.
A website has been created so that she can document the journey from one green pen to two college eduations. “I know I need to do something drastic, given my financial situation, and I thought this would be a fun way to reach my goal and share the journey with others.” Those wishing to participate can see the latest trade and make an offer at http://tradeupforcollege.com.
Richmond’s scheme is refreshing in a money-obsessed age, not least because it challenges the widely quoted belief that nothing in this life - apart from love and happiness, of course - is free.
