Work At Home - The Change Challenge
Work At Home - The Change Challenge
There is nothing new about the many people who wish to change their lives and set up a home business. The time freedom and flexibility working at home allows is a big factor in making the change.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 20, 2010 --
When asked recently about the change from big business to going alone working at home on-line marketer and a member of the iNetPro Training Group Steve Upton commented "I always think there are three types of people wanting to work at home. Those that want to but it never do anything about it. Then there are those who actually start looking into working at home but again never see it through to the end".
"Luckily we come to those who decide that they really are going to do something about changing their lives. These people either look for an on-line business opportunity to buy into or they have a great idea of their own that they would like to get on-line and share with the world".
Here is a question for you.
What is it about these three groups that either prevent them from moving forwards to the action stage or as in the case of those who do eventually make it to their dream of working at home have in common?
Well there are many that come easily to mind but two stand out. One is lack of knowledge and training and the other is fear, or more accurately the fear of change.
The Change Challenge.
Change and human beings is a strange thing and everyone reacts differently to it. The fear of change is nothing new and it is with us all at one time or another during our lives. Whenever something new comes into our lives or something happens to make us stop and think it almost inevitably brings with it change. So when you look at the group of people who would like to work at home but only dream about it, and those that actually do something about it, you can be pretty sure one of the contributing factors will be the way in which these people look at change.
Steve says "People are naturally fearful of change, the trouble is it inhibits our reason and stops us from moving forward. In other words people want to change their lives for the better by breaking out of the 9-5 mould and say work at home, but the comfort zone they are in and the fear of what's outside of that zone stops them from doing so."
Even people who embrace change have fears and will from time to time fall back almost into the paralysis state, but because they have become adept to the challenge of change they are more able to quickly dispel the fear and move forward.
How can we overcome the fear of change?
The fear of change can stop you doing things that will in all eventuality benefit you.
So ask yourself this question. What would I do if I was not afraid?
If you can answer that question then here is another to think on.
What makes you happy?
Steve continues, "Let’s just say that the thing that makes you happy is cheese. (Don’t worry I’ll explain why “cheese” towards the end) Now it would make sense that because cheese makes you happy you would go looking for all the cheese you could find. Now being happy is something most people aspire to, I say most but some choose to be unhappy, but that’s in another post on the my blog page".
The more important your cheese is to you the more you want to hold on to it.
But what if you woke up one day to find your cheese gone, what would you do? Set out to find more cheese or stand still and expect your cheese to return?
They say that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results each time is a type of madness, but when you do the same thing over and over nothing ever changes. So to move forward you have to do something different so that you can initiate a change. Now if you do this, then perhaps you just might find some new cheese and who knows it could be better than you imagined.
Imagining your new cheese will lead you to it.
Lets say you want to work at home and lets say the reason for doing so is that you have just been made redundant and you know you want something different for your future. Sure your going to do your re-search and make a plan of action but what is it that keeps driving you towards that end goal of actually achieving it.
Well for most it’s the power of your imagination, imagining your sat in a comfortable office overlooking your garden on a lovely sunny day and thinking today I’m going to spend some time just chilling out. Building a picture in your mind of what your goals look like will help you face and overcome the challenge of change and will lead you to better things, the things you actually want for yourself.
So at the start of your journey to work at home try imagining where you want to be in 3 or 6 months time. Make the picture in your minds eye a vivid as possible and don’t leave out any details. Then when your fears surface think on your picture of what your goals are and continue to move forward towards that goal.
Here’s a quick example of the success of the mind.
A group of people were split in two groups. Group one were taken away to a rugby pitch and they trained everyday to kick the ball through the posts. Group two were taken to classroom and were coached through all the aspects of kicking an imaginary ball through imaginary posts. They then held a competition between the two groups to see who would kick the most goals. Any ideas which group did best?
The second group who had never kicked the ball through the posts until that moment won. The reason behind this? They could see the end result before they even started running towards the ball. They could feel the contact of foot on ball in their mind so there was no reason to believe in their minds that anything other than a clean and straight contact would be made.
Old beliefs do not lead you to new cheese
Absolutely right, says Steve, "You have to believe in what you are doing and once you believe your fears will diminish, see what your going to achieve in your mind and move towards that goal and embrace the challenge of change".
"If your really looking to work at home but feel fearful of what the future may hold just remember it could be that your current comfortable position is inhibiting your ability to change".
So what's all this about cheese Steve?
"Well the reference to cheese will be familiar to a lot of people out there. I came across a book called "Who Moved My Cheese" by Dr Spencer Johnson, it is an amazing read and I would recommend it to anyone who is in the process of change are are stuck in that fear zone".
"It really will help if your at the start of the change cycle. For those of you reading this who are already embracing change and want to know more about how to launch your business on-line we would love to see you at the iNetPro Training Group".
