Singapore, 7th December 2011 – SOLID ASIA, one of the world’s leading solar engineering companies, will be presenting their latest global impacting technology at the international school- United World College of South East Asia(UWCSEA). The campus with an area of 76,000sqm is equipped with state-of-the art facilities and meets the BCA Greenmark Platinum certification standards.
This system, which is the largest solar cooling plant in the world, is built in Singapore’s UWCSEA East Campus in Tampines. It is also the first and currently, the only school to be provided with such a system with beneficial synergistic effects. An investment of around EUR 4 million financed by Raiffeisen-Landesbank of Steiermark(RLB-Stmk)OeKB, the Oesterreichische Kontrollbank and together with EDB Singapore SCS Funds has been instrumental in driving this forward.
With a collector area of 3,900㎡, this system will generate approximately 1,750 megawatt hours a year, which will provide a considerable part of the air conditioning by BROAD Hot Water chiller as well as 100% of the schools’ hot water demand.
Solar Cooling is a technology that has huge potential in stabilizing electric grids and the conversion of conventional energy to renewable. Currently air conditioning is responsible for 50-70% of all electricity use in hot climates and through creating power peaks, further being responsible for most brown outs and black outs. The international energy is transitioning to a developing “Solar Thermal Technology Roadmap” that would provide a substantial impact cooling cab have on future energy systems.
“We are excited to be hosting this unique combination of green technologies within our new campus, we hope it will not only provide a more sustainable approach to our air conditioning needs but also a hand on educational opportunity for our students and staff.”-UWCSEA
The opening launch has special significance as it will be graced by the presence of ministers, ambassadors, delegates and researchers from Singapore, South East Asia and Europe.
