Yokohama Conducts Environmental Management Orientation to Elementary students

(Free-Press-Release.com) August 17, 2011 -- Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. (YTPI) is set to have an Environmental Management Orientation-Seminar to the school children of Malabanias Elementary School on August 13, 2011 which intends on propagating awareness on environmental protection as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The activity aims on encouraging the young ones on engaging on activities on the preservation of the Earth’s natural resources and have a common knowledge on contributing to its welfare.

Mr. Ricardo Lulu, head of EMS (Environmental Management Section) will discuss the seminar to the school children. This will educate the children on how to preserve the environment and natural resources and will equip them with new skills and knowledge for their development

Also part of the program will be a story telling activity which features different characters teaching the value of waste segregation and the dire effects that it can bring on failing to do so. Group games were also prepared to make the event enjoyable for the children.

Around 100 elementary students, aged 6 – 11 are expected to engage in the educational and fun-filled activity. Members of the school’s faculty and parents are also present to facilitate and assist in the event.

Aside from Yokohama employees volunteering in the event, also taking part in the activity are the Japanese trainees wherein they will teach the audience about origami, or the Japanese traditional art of folding paper into different decorative arts and figures. This will educate the kids the value of re-using paper and turning them into wonderful pieces of art.

Aside from fun-filled activity awaiting the students, the schools will be provided with trash bins which they will use in order to practice the new knowledge and skills they got from the orientation-seminar.
Yokohama considers that its business operations are interwoven with the community surrounding it.

Last July 29, 2011, Yokohama held its first “Kapihan” wherein the company invited barangay captains and local government officials on introducing its CSR activities, serving as a venue to listen to the common issues of the community the CSR activities of Yokohama will blend or conform to existing issues of the community where it belongs. The “Kapihan” also forms a partnership between these entities on creating sustainable programs to help its local community.
