June 27, 2003 (Press Release) --
NEW YORK…6/23/03…New York’s acclaimed Goodbye Girl Friday have established a respected reputation for their sophisticated combination of classic and modern styles. They have received steady airplay on more than 100 radio stations nationwide, garnered extensive press coverage and been invited to perform in conferences like South By Southwest, Nashville New Music Conference and the Millennium Music Conference and coveted track placement on nationally distributed compilation CDs by DiscMakers and New Future Records. Due to a continuously growing amount of industry and media interest, they are proud to announce the release of their new demo project, Faces, which features five tracks from their forthcoming full-length album releasing this fall.
With intricate, pervasive melodies that flow through the mind, Goodbye Girl Friday fuses honest, thought provoking lyrics and a jazz-pop-rock feel with a touch of torch that unites traditional and modern styles.
Singer/songwriter David Sherman calls the new material on Faces "a turning point for our trio. We even put guitar on a couple of tracks for added texture...it's definitely our most commercially viable effort to date."
Faces, a follow up to their debut album Mr. and Mrs., takes an in-depth look at the many sides of the soul and the conflict within. From the personal assessment of the player in the title-track "Faces”, to the reflective longing for renewal and healing in “Cold Summer Rain”, and the conversational but cutting look at “Tess”: “Gonna pick and choose another cinematic fool to love me/ Gonna find the magic/ Turn the tragic into honey”, lead singer/songwriter David Sherman’s brilliant awareness of our deepest secret thoughts, fears and realizations displays with striking clarity the musical growth and continuous creative expansion of Goodbye Girl Friday’s powerful music.
Sherman’s startlingly honest and intense songwriting remarkably transforms the pop & jazz blend to a new level of consciousness and has caught the attention of media, music lovers and industry professionals the world over (see select quotes listed below).
Goodbye Girl Friday have already received great reactions for Mr. and Mrs. They were the #4 most downloaded artist on Starpolish.com, have thrilled crowds at the Mercury Lounge, Mulcahey’s in Long Island, and also at the C-Note as a part of the City Canyons Records showcase this past weekend.
They were also recently chosen to be featured on soundtrack of the independent Aha! Films upcoming movie The Bridge is Over .
