September 24, 2003 (Press Release) --
Shirley McMurray proprietor of the Canadian company was more than delighted by the news. I knew we were taking a gamble submitting our entries up against mostly British fare. Winning these awards opened new possible ventures for The Jelly Crate already. While in London we were able to present our products to Buckingham Palace, Harrods and Fortnum & Mason. The acceptance of fruits fused with Icewine is not a recognizable blend due to the Icewine. Making the winning of this award all that more special.
Shirley described the Fruits in Icewine as a relatively new line for the company. Christine McGaw, business associate originally introduced the line to Shirley. Expressing a need to fine-tune the original recipe used. Once this was completed with Strawberries, Cherries and Peaches in Icewine, Shirley introduced the now famous “Raspberries in Icewine”.
In England, The Jelly Crate creations went up against a record entry of 4000 products from across the UK, Europe and beyond. One hundred eighty blind-folded judges, from fine food buyers, delicatessen owners to leading food writers worked together, marking independently, taste tested, searching for only the Best of the Best. The judges tasted product over seven days, with taste and flavour being the overriding criteria for an award. These awards are the most stringent and fairest judging standards of any food competition and the prestige of Gold, Silver or Bronze in the Great Taste Awards carries an endorsement of superb quality and exquisite taste. For meeting these high standards, creators of products walk away with what people refer to as the “Oscars of Fine Food”.
A commitment to quality was proven once again.
The Gold Winning product is a delightful combination of natural raspberries grown in Ontario, steeped into only the best Ontario Icewine to create a delightful Topper.
Silver Winner, Peach Schnapps Liqueur Jelly a second time winner continues to be a favorite. Winning a ribbon at the Rockton World Fair.
