kay is an Ottawa based nu-metal band which formed in 2001. The bands approach to music involves elements of storytelling, duelling guitars, and intricate vocal stylings. The five song writers in the band draw upon their own life experiences and musical style to create the signature kay sound. The groups’ self titled debut CD was released in March of 2003 and has been praised for its insightful lyrics, soaring harmonies, heavy riffs, and gritty artistic integrity. The band kay formed out of a desire to write, perform and record music based on real experiences and stories of joy, pain, loss, hope and personal transformation. Deeply committed to the music they write, the band has attempted to spread its message of triumph over adversity far and wide. Inviting audiences of live music to come and celebrate with them, the band firmly believes that to honour beauty in the world without acknowledging darkness would be insincere. Their charged and infectiously uplifting shows highlight the importance of celebrating past artists and cultures and their contributions to creativity and the human spirit.
