metalife protein viewer is a powerful web based flash tool for graphical presentation of protein sequence features. in the current 0304 version are included all of the 1173204 protein sequences collected in the metalife non-redundant database bio explorer. they could be accessed via different advanced search categories including a BLAST search.
the application is composed of four customizable interconnected modules: sequence homologues; protein structure; detected functional domains; protein classification. homology module is a multiple alignment viewer representing homologous sequence clusters of the queried sequence. structure module shows experimentally proven and predicted by various algorithms secondary structures, as well as 49 distinct protein features (such as amino-acids modifications, mutations, splice forms, active sites etc.). protein motifs, domains, and families are mapped on the protein sequence and they are simultaneously depicted in the function module.
as protein viewer is connected with the rest metalife products, additional information like: textual annotations, physico-chemical properties, the protein relationships with other proteins and coding genes, is available.
